After the outpouring of popular support for Anna Hazare in his campaign against graft, Congress MP Sandeep Dikshit has raised objections to the anti-corruption crusader's cause.
Dikshit has written a letter to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee expressing reservations over the Jan Lokpal bill. Pranab is the chairperson of Lokpal Bill drafting committee.
Speaking exclusively to Headlines Today, Dikshit has said that a few people cannot put pressure on the government to get the Lokpal bill passed and that it was important for MPs to be consulted.
Such campaigns, he said, should not undermine the responsibility of MPs and that it's important to take their opinion as well.
Maintaining that the joint drafting panel 'cannot be limited to 10 people or five activists', Dikshit said that the panel required wider consultation and that it couldn't be 'time-centric'.

Ipl: Rajasthan Beat Mumbai By 10 Wickets

Shane Watson smashed a breath-taking unbeaten 47-ball 89-run knock as Rajasthan provided the perfect send off to their retiring captain Shane Warne by thrashing Mumbai by 10 wickets in their last IPL match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. Score | Photos
After restricting Mumbai Indians to a modest 133 for five, Rajasthan rode on Watson's blitzkrieg to overhaul the target in just 13.1 overs and prolong Mumbai's wait for a confirmed berth in the play-off.
It was a stunning display of stroke-play by Watson as out-of-contention Rajasthan got their acts together in time to give a befitting farewell to their inspiration captain Warne.
With this defeat, Mumbai now has 16 points and will take on Kolkata Knight Riders on May 22 in their final round-robin IPL match for a place in the play-off.
Kolkata too are at 16 points, while Kings XI Punjab have 14 points in their kitty with one match to go.
Royals have finished their engagements with 13 points.
Chennai Super Kings, with 18 points, and Royal Challengers Bangalore (17) have already qualified for the four-team play-offs and are in the top two positions on the table.
It was Watson's day all the way as after grabbing three wickets for 19 runs, the burly Australian simply tore the home team's attack and struck six sixes and nine fours.
Rahul Dravid, who started slowly before opening out, played the ideal foil to his 29-year-old team-mate, named the man of the match, while making an unbeaten 43 in 32 balls with the help of six fours.
The burly Aussie pulled the ball ferociously and also drove it with power when the opportunity arose and treated all the bowlers with equal disdain. Watson's pyrotechnics saw Malinga ?- MI's pride and the highest wicket taker in IPL4, bled 42 runs in his four overs.
Earlier, electing to bat Rohit Sharma cracked his third half century in the season to lift Mumbai from a dawdling start.
Sharma, who came to the crease when the home team had slumped to 17 for two after four overs, slammed five fours and a six in his 47-ball 58.
He was involved in two fruitful stands ? 48 runs with captain Sachin Tendulkar who made an unimpressive 31 in 35 balls and 53 runs in 39 balls for the fourth wicket with Kieron Pollard (20 in 18 balls) - that upped the scoring rate.
Watson emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Royals with a haul of three for 19, including the first two, while left arm spinner Ankit Chavan bowled very well and was not fortunate to gain the wicket of Tendulkar in his four overs.
Mumbai's performance was an improvement over their pathetic 94 for eight at Jaipur in their first leg clash last month which they had lost, but the total was still well below their own expectations.
The home team struggled to get going after opting to bat first. Royals opened with left arm Chavan and Watson and kept the duo on right through the power play overs at the end of which the hosts were a poor 26 for two.
But any hopes Mumbai had of defending the meagre total evaporated once Watson started the mayhem with a boundary hit off Munaf Patel off the second ball of the innings.
The Australian then banished Harbhajan Singh from the attack by slamming the feisty off spinner for a couple of huge sixes into the stands at mid wicket.
Tendulkar brought in Malinga into the attack to stop the carnage but Watson greeted the Sri Lankan pacer with a thumping drive down the ground to the long on fence.
Malinga retorted with a bumper that hit Watson on his neck as he took evasive action and very nearly gave a catch off the next ball with a mistimed pull shot but because of the field restrictions the ball fell in no man's land and sped to the ropes.
The Aussie later escaped a run out effort by Harbhajan Singh who missed hitting the stumps at the striker's end with Watson scrambling to reach the crease.
Having escaped on 29, Watson went berserk against Malinga and pulled the sling-arm bowler for two fours interspersed with a six in the bowler's second over to help Royals end up with 52 without loss after the power play period of six overs.
A cover drive off Dhawal Kulkarni helped Watson complete his maiden 50 in the tournament this season off only 30 balls and laced with three sixes and six fours. He pulled the medium pacer for his fourth six in the same over.
Dravid, till then the silent partner in the rollicking stand, also stepped on the gas by smashing Harbhajan Singh for three fours in the off spinner's second over to maintain the blistering run-rate.
Watson swung Malinga for his fifth six backward of square to hold complete sway over the proceedings as Royals powered their way past the 100 mark in the 11th over. Watson continued in the same vein till the Royals reached the victory target.

2g Scam: With Kanimozhi's Arrest, Cbi Guns For More Beneficiaries

DMK MP Kanimozhi has become the latest in a gradually growing line of influential persons to be jailed in the 2G spectrum scam case.
The daughter of DMK supremo M. Karunanidhi was sent to Tihar Jail by a special CBI court on charges of receiving kickbacks in the 2G scam. Her case has sent into a tizzy other well-connected beneficiaries of the scam, unnerved by the fact that someone belonging to the DMK first family - and a member of a key UPA ally - could be jailed.
Forty-three-year-old Kanimozhi is the twelfth big name to be added to the list of VIPs in Tihar Jail after former telecom minister A. Raja, former telecom secretary Siddhartha Behura, Raja's personal secretary R. K. Chandolia and seven corporate honchos.
However, the series of high-profile arrests is expected to continue. Kanimozhi was held after the CBI filed its second charge sheet.
The premier investigating agency is now training its guns on corporate firms Loop Telecom, S Tel and Data com, alleged beneficiaries of spectrum allocation, to nail them in its third charge sheet. This is likely to be filed this month before a special CBI court.
A joint team of the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate is all set to visit Mauritius to unearth the ownership of Delphi investments which bought Reliance Telecom's stake held in M/s Swan Telecom, a beneficiary of the 2G scam.
The agency had on May 12 questioned Essar Group's CEO, Prashant Ruia, in connection Essar's links with Loop Telecom which got a Unified Access Service Licence for 21 circles in 2008.
According to CBI sources, Loop Telecom was ineligible for spectrum licence and Essar had a joint venture with Vodafone for mobile services, and at the same time had a stake in Loop.
The CBI suspects that Loop Telecom was a front for Essar group, which held more than 10 per cent in Loop Telecom and violated the Department of Telecom's cross-holding norms.
Topshots of Loop Telecom, S Tel and Videocon Telecommunications have also been questioned by the premier investigating agency.
Sources said that owners of firms that allegedly benefited from the 2G scam could be in the line of fire. This could be a logical progression of the case following the arrests of CEOs and heavyweight politicians involved. If Kanimozhi's arrest has made them nervous it is because she is not only a DMK MP but the daughter of the DMK chief.
On Friday, dismissing Kanimozhi's bail plea, special judge O.P.
Saini noted that a number of the witnesses listed in the case are employees of Kalaignar TV and could be influenced by the accused if they are released on bail.
Kanimozhi is a part owner of the channel, along with Sharad Kumar, its CEO who was also arrested with the DMK MP for receiving `200 crore in bribes from D B Realty for the channel in the spectrum scam.
"Considering the magnitude of the crime, nature and enormity of the allegations, character of evidence on record and the apprehension that the witnesses may be influenced and the allegations against her, I am unable to show any consideration to her," said Saini who added that considering her "extremely dignified conduct" in the court he would have wished to give her "some consideration of being a woman".
As the verdict was announced, most of her supporters broke down seeing her being taken into custody.
"This was expected, I am not surprised," a teary-eyed Kanimozhi told her husband Aravindan and moved to the witness box along with coaccused Sharad Kumar for paper work. Her supporters included A.
Raja's wife M.A. Parmeshwari who hugged and consoled her.
The order quotes Raja's former private secretary Aseervatham Achary saying that Kani was an "active brain behind Kalaignar TV".
The court, also noted that the allegations against Kanimozhi and Kumar were grave.
"The role of both accused in the case is clear from the above incriminating material on record," the court said.
Investigating agencies have meanwhile probed top telecom corporate. Sandeep Basu, CEO of Loop Telecom was earlier questioned by the CBI.
The probe agencies are trying to unravel the ownership pattern of the telecom companies.
For instance, Shipping Stop Dot Com now Loop Telecom, had got 21 United Access Services (UAS) licences but its authorised capital was only `5.2 crore against a requirement of `128 crore.
The computer software company had misrepresented facts and was not eligible for grant of an UAS licence.
Similarly S Tel had got six UAS licences but submitted false certificates regarding paid up capital, among others.
Arun Mandhana, CFO and Rupinder Sikka, another top official of the company have already been questioned by CBI.
The third company, Data Com Services (now known as Videocon Telecommunications), had submitted a false certificate about the paid-up capital and got UAS licences for 21 circles.
The company's authorised capital according to a CAG report was just `1 lakh against requirement of `138 crore. Videocon's Raj Kumar Dhoot, a Rajya Sabha MP, has been questioned by the CBI.
Meanwhile, official sources stated that after the third charge sheet is filed, the CBI will focus on the period starting from 2001 onwards.
Top CBI officials maintained that no business tycoon or a business house had been given a clean chit.
WHY SHE IS UNDER LENS
Charges against Kani
* She is a key conspirator in the 2G spectrum allocation scam along with former telecom minister A. Raja
* She was actively pursuing the interests of the Karunanidhi clan-run Kalaignar TV and played a key role in diverting the bribe
* She pushed for Raja's appointment as telecom minister in 2009 with intermediaries - including politicians, journalists and lobbyists

Adam Gilchrist rolled back years to come up with a superlative century helping his team to an impressive 111-run win against Bangalore during the 63rd IPL match on Tuesday. Score | Photos
Batting at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday, he and countryman Shaun Marsh also put up the highest T20 partnership scoring a massive 206 runs for the second wicket.
In the face of a daunting 233-run target, Bangalore lost the plot early.
Opener Chris Gayle went back without opening his account to a Ryan Harris ball in the second over and soon one-down batsman Virat Kohli followed in the fourth over. He became Harris's second victim when the total was 17/2.
The other opener Saurabh Tiwary departed on the last ball of the sixth over off Shalabh Srivastava and the next over saw Asad Pathan walk back, caught David Hussey, bowled Paul valthaty when the team total was 43/4.
Mohammad Kaif was the next to take a walk. A turner off leggie Piyush Chawla beat him and Gilchrist removed the bails in a jiffy. He was the fifth wicket to fall from the Bangalore camp and the score at the time of his departure was 72.
Chawla then came around to get rid of Arun Karthik AB de Villiers to reduce Bangalore to 89/7.
With seven wicket back in the dugout, the rest was easy for the Punjab bowlers who quickly wrapped up the tail emerging triumphant by 111 runs with three overs to spare.

Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist hit a century helping his team 232 against Bangalore - the highest total of IPL-4.
Captain Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh, who remained unbeaten on 79, scored 206 runs for the second wicket - the highest in T20s so far.
Earlier, Punjab captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss and elected to bat in this 63th IPL match of the season.
Despite a good start, they lost their opener Paul Valthaty to a Charl Langeveldt ball in the fourth over when the team total was 25.
But post that wicket, the two Aussies, Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh got going against the Bangalore bowlers. Soon the run rate shot up to more than 10 an over and by the 10th over the Punjab total was an impressive 99/1.
The two started dealing in boundaries and over-the-fence shots making the opposition - Bangalore, table-toppers in the IPL so far, look like a team of novice players. Chris Gayle, who has been impressive both with the bat and the ball this season, too could not much for the team's cause as the two Aussies went about their business with ease.
Punjab crossed the 200-run mark in the 17th over off Johan van der Wath that witnessed as many as 16 runs being scored in it. A much better performance by Van der Wath compared to his last over that went for 30 runs.
Gilchrist went on to complete his first IPL-4 century hitting a four off Charl Langeveldt on the second ball of the last over.
But the captain's innings came to a tame end on the penultimate ball of the innings when he prodded an away moving ball to Chris Gayle at short third man. His 106-run innings came off just 55 balls and was decorated with eight four and nine over-the-fence shot.
The Gilchrist-Marsh 206-run partnership proved to be the highest in all T20s so far. And the score 232 was the highest of this IPL season. Marsh remained unbeaten on 79.

India Backs Afghan Aims To Reconcile With Taliban: PM Manmohan Singh

KABUL: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai on Thursday that he strongly supports the country's effort to reconcile with the Taliban insurgency and said Afghanistan can depend on India's support in rebuilding its fractured society.
Manmohan Singh's two-day visit and words of support reflected the two nations' close ties, built in part on a shared distrust of neighboring Pakistan, whose intelligence agencies are accused of encouraging and even funding the militancy in both countries.
"India is your neighbor and partner in development," Singh told a gathering including President Hamid Karzai and senior officials in Kabul, the Afghan capital. "You can count on us as you build your society, economy and polity."
Singh held talks with Karzai on regional stability, counterterrorism and the India-Afghanistan strategic partnership.
Afghanistan is becoming more reliant on regional allies like India as its international partners face increasing pressure to withdraw troops, especially after the killing of al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden.
Karzai has argued that the best solution to Afghanistan's long-running war against the Taliban insurgency is to convince the militants to reconcile with the government - a stance that has also gained more traction with the US and other international allies in recent years.
Singh applauded this effort in his speech.
"We strongly support the Afghan people's quest for peace and reconciliation," Singh said. "India supports the unity, integrity and prosperity and Afghanistan."
The US and NATO have long overseen the security of Afghanistan, ensuring that Taliban militants are not able to take and hold territory. But the US expects to start drawing down troops in July, and international forces have agreed to hand over responsibility for security countrywide by 2014.
Bin Laden's killing last week in Pakistan has increased questions in the United States over why so many troops and resources are dedicated to Afghanistan. Many both inside Afghanistan and abroad have said they hope bin Laden's death will also make the Taliban more likely to sever its ties with al-Qaida - a precondition for any negotiations that was set by the Afghan government.
Singh was expected to announce a new multimillion-dollar aid package during the visit, according to Indian officials.
India has spent $1.5 billion in Afghanistan to help build highways, hospitals and the electricity grid. It has also helped the Afghan government rebuild its police forces, judiciary and diplomatic services.
Singh last visited Afghanistan in 2005, but Karzai has been a frequent visitor to India. The Afghan president, who earned his college degree in India, has visited New Delhi a half dozen times in the past few years, most recently in February.

RCA Files Complaint Against Warne For Abusing Its Secretary

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne has landed in trouble as the state's Cricket Association (RCA) has lodged a complaint against him with the BCCI and the IPL for publicly abusing its secretary Sanjay Dixit for not acceding to his request of a suitable pitch.
The RCA has alleged that Warne, who has already announced his retirement from IPL as a player, misbehaved with Dixit for not acceding to his demand after Rajasthan Royals slumped to a humiliating nine-wicket defeat against Royals Challengers Bangalore in their last home match last night.
RCA venue director Narendra Joshi has written to IPL's chief operating officer Sunder Raman, alleging that Warne had publicly abused Dixit by calling him "a liar and egoistic" and demanded action against the Australian.
The ugly incident took place just after the prize distribution ceremony at the Sawai Man Singh stadium.
Sources allegedly that a disappointed Warne walked up to Dixit and abused him for not replying to his messages. He called Dixit a liar, egoistic and asked him to go away, forcing Rajasthan Royals owner Shilpa Shetty to intervene and apologise for the incident.
RCA secretary Dixit also filed a separate complaint and had urged the BCCI and IPL to take stern action against Warne for pressuring him to provide a suitable wicket for Rajasthan Royals' home matches.
According to the sources, Dixit has forwarded the text messages to BCCI which Warne had repeatedly sent him.
When Dixit was asked about the incident, he said Warne's behaviour probably came out of frustration for the team's back-to-back defeats, which almost jeopardised Rajasthan Royals' chances of making it to the play-offs.
"The BCCI has already clarified that the pitch comes under the purview of the pitch committee and curator. So, how could I have acceded to his demand? he questioned.
"His behaviour was totally unjustified and I have asked for action against him. Shilpa Shetty was gracious to come and calm things down," Dixit added.
The back-to-back defeats at home against Chennai Super Kings and RCB had made Warne furious as he believed that the change of pitch after Sachin Tendulkar's criticism last month following Mumbai Indians' seven-wicket loss had robbed Rajasthan Royals of the home advantage.
Rajasthan Royals were banking on low and slow home conditions to come good in the tournament but after Tendulkar's remark, the BCCI had rushed off its Grounds and Wickets Committee chairman, Venkat Sundaram to Jaipur to prepare a new strip for the remaining IPL matches at the ground.

Lahore, May 16: Pakistan's ODI captain Shahid Afridi has stated that he is available for the two ODIs against Ireland later this month.
Afridi who ran into trouble with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for giving statements on team managements after returning from Weast Indies tour, has been issued a notice by the board.
Afridi also stated reports that he had a serious gap between head coach Waqar Younis over selection matters. Board has expected that they might send the same team against Ireland, which is currently playing the Test series in the West Indies, on the way back home from the Caribbean.
But Afridi said he was desperate to play against Ireland and would also be in England at the same time playing for Hampshire. He will play for Hampshire for their Twenty20 campaign where he will join South Africa spinner Imran Tahir.
However, he said it would be up to the Pakistan board to decide on his fate for the series. "In my reply I cleared that I had no intentions to target any individual or violate the code of conduct," he said. "I've tried to convince the Board that it was a general comment which I often give in the interest of the team. I'd be happy to play but it's up to the board to decide on my selection."

Chennai, May 16 : All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief J Jayalalithaa took oath as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu for the third time on Monday, after winning a thumping majority in the state assembly elections.
The iron lady of Tamil Nadu was administered the oath of office and secrecy in Tamil by Governor Surjit Singh Barnala at the Madras University Centenary Hall here, amid chants of her party workers and leaders for their loved Amma.
A total of 33 other ministers also took oath of office.
The high profile function was graced by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and several other senior leaders of various parties.
The 63-year-old actor-turned-politician stepped into the CM’s shoes for the third time along with one of the biggest cabinets ever.
Jayalalithaa will host a luncheon and finally step in to her office, the state’s old secretariat -- a 400-year-old-building -- shunning the plush new Rs 1,100-crore office unveiled by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government last year, at around 4 pm.
According to reports, among the first things on her agenda would be to selectively reshuffle her bureaucracy, tighten the law enforcement machinery and also perhaps head to New Delhi to meet Sonia Gandhi on the invitation of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson.
After she scored a huge majority over the ruling Congress-DMK alliance in the state, Congress chief Gandhi had congratulated Jayalalithaa, something which is unlikely to go down very well in the DMK quarters.
The invitation of Sonia is being seen as the Congress's move to reach out to AIADMK.
Jayalalithaa in Tamil Nadu returned to power on Friday last as her party AIADMK along with the alliance partners bagged 203 seats against 31 by DMK and its alliance in state assembly polls.
Jayalalithaa, better known as Amma, said the state has to be built again since the outgoing government has ruined it completely.
On Sunday, she went to the Raj Bhavan and met governor Surjit Singh Barnala and formally staked claim to form the government, after the elected 146 AIADMK MLAs met on Sunday and selected her as the Legislature Party leader.
She said the state's economy has been derailed by the outgoing Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam (DMK) government and it has to be restored while law and order would be her first priority.
