UP: Woman Gangraped By Government Employees

Three persons, including two government employees, allegedly gangraped a 30-year-old woman in the district, police said on Saturday.

An FIR was lodged, on Saturday, against collectorate employee Ram Sagar, clerk Ramesh Pande and another person Haseen on the basis of an inquiry into the allegations levelled against the accused in a complaint by the victim on July 14, they said.

The woman, in her complaint to Superintendent of Police Piyush Mordia, had alleged that three persons had allegedly raped her on the pretext of providing house under a government scheme, police said.

After that, the SP ordered an inquiry by area Circle Officer, they said. 15 other persons were also booked for allegedly harassing the victim and colluding with the accused, police said.

Ind Vs Eng Tests: India Focus On Facing Short-Pitch Bowling

Anticipating a barrage of short-pitched bowing in the upcoming Test series against England, the Indian batsmen on Thursday devoted time in finding ways to handle the James Anderson-led pace battery even as the tour opens with a three-day game against Somerset from Friday.

With Somerset resting most of their top players, the wicket as flat as they come and rain forecast for the next three days, the Indians are giving it their all during the net sessions.

Gautam Gambhir spent as much time as he could in the nets adjacent to the centre pitch. Coach Duncan Fletcher watched him from the front, then slipped behind the nets and had a few chosen words of advice for the tremendous opener.

Gambhir appeared to practice against deliveries which bounced and left him. Time and again, he hopped on to his back-foot and angled down the bat in the gully area; a strategy to counter Anderson, Chris Tremlett and Stuart Broad - some of the tallest pacemen operating in international cricket.

Sachin Tendulkar preferred to start with throw-downs from fielding coach Trevor Penny. He warmed up and faced up to India's top medium-pacers and then kept at it for a long time.

Somerset would do their own bit to deprive Indians of any worthwhile practice. Captain Marcus Trescothick is away, England's one-day opener-wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter is unlikely to be around and the only fast bowler of any promise,
Steve Kirby, could be missing.

Left-armers no problem: Strauss

He has been dismissed five times by Zaheer Khan in Test cricket but England captain Andrew Strauss feels there was nothing wrong in his technique, going into the first Test.

Strauss is expected to begin in the visitors' only tour match against Somerset, where he is playing as a guest.

"I've looked at it (technique against left-arm seam) but I don't think there is anything massively wrong," said Strauss.

"You can put yourself into a corner on these things. You have to be clear in your mind that is the right recipe to score run.

Mumbai Blasts Probe: Will Soon Release Sketch Of A Suspect, Says ATS Chief

Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad on Saturday ruled out the involvement of a suicide bomber in Wednesday's three blasts in the city and said a probable suspect's sketch would be prepared by Saturday night.

"Investigations done so far and visit to the sites by forensic experts and investigators suggest that there was no suicide bomber," said Maharashtra ATS chief Rakesh Maria.

Based on eyewitness' accounts, a sketch of a probable suspect would be prepared by tonight and circulated among the investigators, Maria said.

"The experts have retrieved certain portions of metallic container which was used to store and carry the explosives," he added.

He also said ammonium nitrate, crude oil and digital timers were used in the explosive devices.

Teams of Maharashtra ATS and crime branch had gone to various places in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Delhi, West Bengal, Andra Pradesh, Karnataka and Rajasthan as part of the probe into the blasts, Maria said, adding they were also taking the help of police of respective states and the central agencies.
Nineteen people were killed in the three blasts and over 130 were injured.

Maria said some accused currently lodged in Madhya Pradesh had been questioned in a bid to get the leads.

"(Members of) various modules arrested in the past are being questioned (to see) if they can help in the solving the blast case," the ATS chief said, adding there were some good leads and the investigation was moving in the right directions.

Nobody had been detained so far, he said.

He said some of the CCTV footages were "grainy" and in a day or two, investigators will be able to get better images from the CCTV cameras recovered from the blast sites, he said.

Mumbai Blasts: ATS, Crime Branch Quiz Indian Mujahideen Men, Others

The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad and the Mumbai Crime Branch have questioned a number of people, including two arrested Indian Mujahideen operatives, and those with underworld links in a bid to get clues on Wednesday's serial blasts, killing 18 and injuring more than hundred others.

Home ministry sources have not ruled out underworld connection to the serial blasts.

In what could be a breakthrough, security agencies have identified the owner of the two-wheeler, in which the explosive material was planted at Zaveri Bazaar.

The two suspected IM operatives, who were arrested recently with fire-arms, had allegedly provided vehicles that were used in 2008 serial blasts in Gujarat, in which 56 people were killed and over 200 were injured.

Officials of the ATS and the crime branch have also activated their human intelligence networks as they sought maximum help from their informers across Maharashtra.

ATS officials say they have a reason to believe that Wednesday's suspects may not have used sophisticated technology to execute the blasts, which is why investigators are depending upon human intelligence and are verifying information to get some clues.

Investigators are also scanning CCTV footage from blast sites at Opera House and Zaveri Bazar.

Investigators have also identified three people at Khau Gali in Opera House, whose movement was found to be highly suspicious.

In a clear sign of the expanding probe, an NIA team will go to Ahmedabad after the owner of the scooter, on which the explosives were kept in Zaveri Bazar, was identified as a resident of Gujarat.
