US, Pak Forces Begin Hunt For Taliban Leader Mullah Omar

Having killed Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden in a covert operation in Pakistan's Abbottabad town recently, the US forces are now focussing on Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Omar.

Special joint forces of the US and Pakistan have been conducting raids on the one-eyed terror mastermind's hideouts. The latest action was prompted by the success of operation Geronimo last week.

Intelligence reports claimed that Omar was being sheltered in the western Pakistani city of Quetta, near the Afghan border.

Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) network is said to be desperate to find him first after being humiliated by the American operation in which Laden was killed.

The US strike teams were also fine-tuning plans for an assault on Omar's lair after collecting a treasure trove of data from Laden's compound in Abbottabad.

However, Omar is said to be protected by hundreds of heavily armed militants following fears that he was in the US line of fire.
